[Plain language] I am pleased to announce today that we are pausing new account creation by Instagram Kids (ages 7-13) while we evaluate our policies and practices around this topic. We recognize that there are already ways to create an account without an Instagram Kids account, and many of our community already uses Instagram Kids features, such as Discover and chat. If you already have an Instagram Kids account and want to use Discover and chat, you can switch off the Kids account settings in your profile settings. We will also disable all Club activities on Instagram Kids, including my Chats. I want to be clear that Instagram is a family-friendly app, and the Kids features we are disabling are optional.

TUCSON, AZ – UPDATED: An Instagram spokesperson told Fox News:
“This is a thoughtful step we are taking as we evaluate how we can best serve the Instagram Kids community on Instagram. We want Instagram to be a platform where young people can connect with content that’s meaningful to them and their families. What works for our community today will hopefully work for the community a few years from now. We are always assessing what we should do to make Instagram as accessible and relevant as possible to a wide range of users, from kids and young adults who may not be able to yet read or write with a cursory understanding of English to older users and investors who may be entirely new to Instagram.”
