I’m Derek Schmidt: This is why I want Kansas’ vote in the midterm election to be worth as much as a vote for Congress.
In 2014, I decided the most important thing to do for Kansas was to run for a seat in Congress. And I won. I won in Kansas, and it was the most important story of the Kansas democratic primary in recent memory.
In this special series, “One Kansas,” we’ll look at the issues in Kansas that are making headlines: affordable housing, education, and taxes. We’ll address issues like why so many people are fleeing the state; why the state has been losing jobs; and why a recent court ruling could affect how we do business.
I’m a conservative who moved from Kansas to DC and served as a U.S. House member from Kansas’ 2nd District. I’ve known Eric Davis for nearly 30 years. We are both Republicans who moved from Kansas to Washington to make our families bigger and better.
He is the former mayor and a current city councilman in Overland Park, Kansas. As Kansas’s former top elected official, Davis has been a constant thorn in the side of liberals. His campaign to stop a local liberal activist group from changing the name of a city park in his district has been one of his biggest accomplishments. He has a record of standing up to liberals like those in Kansas, and has an agenda that has supported business, the military, and the conservative American way.
He has been a long-time friend and supporter of mine, so I’m thrilled to join the campaign to turn out the vote on Tuesday.
In this special series, “One Kansas,” I will be breaking down the issues that matter most to Kansas voters and talking to Kansas reporters and Kansas political leaders to make sure you know everything you need to know about the ballot measure. I am taking questions from this forum via email at [email protected] and we will have live and recorded chats to get your questions answered.
I look forward to getting your questions and helping you understand the issues in Kansas.
