When Lauri Weems returned home from a family vacation at the start of the year she was surprised to find that the woman she hired to tan her, was not wearing a tanning bed.
“It was like the most bizarre thing to come home and see that she didn’t know how to use a tanning bed,” Weems told FOX 29. “I was like, ‘Where did you get that tanning bed?’ That’s the first thing I thought.”
Weems then decided to get a refund for the $98 she’d paid for a 24-hour tanning appointment, and called her supplier for a refund.
“I didn’t want a refund. I want her to lose her business. I want her fired,” she said.
FOX 29 spoke with Sharon, the supplier, who said her business has been hit hard because of the rash of fake tanning-related injuries, and she’s now being targeted for liability.
“There is no negligence. I pay for the temperature controls. I pay for the temperature sensors. I pay for the assessors. I pay for the court fees and insurance,” Sharon said.
When Weems explained the situation to Sharon, she told us, “The only thing she can say is that she’s trying to cooperate, but the amount of calls I’m getting is just overwhelming. I keep getting phone calls and I’m sitting here trying to figure out what can I do.”
Lauri insists that the supplier is to blame, and she says she’s ready to file a lawsuit if necessary.
