Brian Laundrie’s parents switched up plans to celebrate his return home from Colorado with a trip to New York after learning their son had never intended to see an actress named Gabby Petito while he was traveling through the state with his family.
Laundrie’s mom and dad recently told NBC 4 New York they received a Facebook message from Brian’s sister, Kelly, asking them to come join her and her husband at Petito’s Carnegie Hall apartment in Manhattan, because Brian had never planned to see her.
However, upon hearing Petito’s phone number, “My husband and I almost flipped out at the opportunity,” Laundrie’s mom, Kim Lunde, said.
Laundrie told NBC 4 that he had to stay overnight in New York City because the family wasn’t in a hurry to return home to Pennsylvania after hearing he would be speaking with the 30-year-old actress.
Laundrie’s parents were able to see Petito several times over the weekend, but the 25-year-old former “Billy on the Street” segment producer called out several times that he thought it would be better to return home.
“It was hard, it was stressful, because she had access to me,” Laundrie told the NBC 4 News team after returning home Thursday. “I trusted her when she told me the truth, and I always will.”
When asked if he thought he’d lost his job over the ordeal, Laundrie did not want to comment. Instead, he shared a romantic memory with his mom and dad and thanked them for changing their plans to surprise him.
“It was extremely romantic, and I had to hurry,” he said.
