Manhunt for Brian Laundrie and Kim Peterson, allegedly new boyfriend and wife, is underway

UPDATE: According to U.S. Marshals, Brian Laundrie’s cell phone was seized by FBI agents on Thursday at 3:55 pm after a search warrant was signed by a federal judge.

In addition, according to the Daily Telegraph, the FBI has reportedly been hunting for a man who appears to be named “Gregg Peterson” in some body text messages sent to Mr. Laundrie that lead them to believe that a man who was reported missing from the area on Monday may be him.

Further, The Associated Press reported that the U.S. Marshals have confirmed that Peterson is not the man who was reported missing by his wife.

It is unknown whether Peterson is currently with Mr. Laundrie.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Brian Laundrie and Kim Peterson have been missing for nearly a week and authorities believe someone may be hiding them.

According to reports, the two began dating in April of 2015 and, according to one family member, the couple were very happy.

On February 21, 2019, the West Covina man and the Tustin woman were seen together in the parking lot of Camp Arroyo located about seven miles east of Fontana in Victorville, California, reported the Daily Bulletin.

Following their vacation, the couple were “texting nonstop” and on February 25, Laundrie’s cell phone was apparently used to purchase new tools from Home Depot and Restore Hardware, according to the East Valley Tribune.

The next day, Kim Peterson — who appeared to be married to Mr. Laundrie — said her husband was supposed to meet her at Tustin Yosemite Airport but did not show up. The manhunt for Peterson began immediately.

Brian Laundrie is now in FBI custody.

“Family members have told police the couple was planning on leaving Los Angeles for home in West Covina,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Peterson’s missing vehicle, a white 2015 Chevy Malibu, was later found in a parking lot in Burbank. Inside the vehicle was a mattress and a sign that read ‘meet us in a remote area.’”

The last text message from Peterson’s phone was sent to Laundrie at 11:50 a.m. on February 25 and was categorized as a “hop” to where Peterson could be. A person who was familiar with Peterson and his whereabouts told Fox News that Peterson’s cell phone has been turned off and his phone has been traced to various California cities.

“It was a Hop to a desert area, a wilderness area where there would be cliffs and mountain ranges — all these sort of things.”

“Right now, they’re investigating every clue they could find,” Special Agent in Charge Matthew Ravenelle told the Daily Bulletin.

Peterson’s wife has become a person of interest because of her new relationship with Laundrie, according to the Daily Press.

According to an update from the Sheriff’s Department on Friday, Laundrie was arrested for theft for using his wife’s credit card without her permission.

Mr. Laundrie is being held in Los Angeles County Jail on a $50,000 bond. The last time he was seen was on February 25.
